Stocks closed the day down, with every major index in negative territory. In economic news, there were 1.57 million housing starts in April, less than the expected 1.7 million.

 

Dow Jones -165 at 33,896

S&P 500 -12 at 4,116

NASDAQ -4 at 13,300

 

The 10 Year Treasury closed up 4 basis points yielding 1.68%

Oil prices closed down $2.17 ending at $63.32 a barrel

Gold prices closed down $4 ending at $1,864 an ounce

 

Corporate news:

 

  • Shares of Take-Two Interactive closed up 7% after the company beat quarterly earnings and revenue forecasts, as it continued to benefit from the pandemic-induced increase in video game activity.

 

  • AstraZeneca shares moved 1% higher after a study by co-developer Oxford University reported its vaccine works well as a 3rd booster shot.

 

  • Southwest Airlines said its April revenue increased from March levels due to improvements in leisure travel and said leisure fare levels are nearing where they were in June 2019. Southwest shares finished down 3%.
