Stocks end mixed today but the S&P 500 set a new high after jobless claims dropped to a new COVID-era low.

Dow Jones finished -6 at 35,603

S&P 500 finished +14 at 4,549

NASDAQ finished +94 at 15,215

The 10 Year Treasury closed up 5 basis points yielding 1.68%

Oil prices closed down $0.78 ending at $82.64 a barrel.

Gold prices closed up $0.80 ending at $1,785 an ounce.

Tesla closed up more than 3% after it posted record earnings and revenue for the third quarter that beat expectations. The results were driven by improved gross margins on its automotive business and overall.
American Airlines closed up 2% after American reported a third-quarter profit thanks to federal aid. Revenue improved but was still down 25% compared with the same period in 2019, before the pandemic.
