Stocks closed down today as investors remained cautious about how the omicron variant will impact the economy and what the Federal Reserve will announce Wednesday.

 

Dow Jones finished -320 at 35,650

S&P 500 finished -43 at 4,668

NASDAQ finished -217 at 15,413

 

The 10 Year Treasury closed down 7 basis points yielding 1.42%

Oil prices closed down $0.43 ending at $71.24 a barrel.

Gold prices closed up $2.70 ending at $1,787 an ounce.

  • Harley-Davidson closed up 4.7% after the company announced its electric motorcycle unit, Livewire, will go public through a merger with a special purpose acquisition company, or SPAC. The deal is valued at about $1.8 billion and will trade on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol “LVW.”
  • Rivian closed up 3.7% after MotorTrend named its R1T model the publication’s 2022 truck of the year on Monday and called it “the most remarkable pickup truck we’ve ever driven.” The R1T is the first mass-produced electric truck in the U.S., and the recognition is highly sought by automakers globally every year. Ford slipped 4.5%, and General Motors fell
