Stocks closed up today to end a disappointing January and the S&P 500 posts the worst month since March 2020.

 

Dow Jones finished +406 at 35,131

S&P 500 finished +84 at 4,515

NASDAQ finished +469 at 14,239

 

The 10 Year Treasury closed up 1 basis point yielding 1.79%

Oil prices closed up $1.52 ending at $88.34 a barrel.

Gold prices closed up $12.80 ending at $1,799 an ounce.

 

In the days’ stock news:

 

  • Walgreens closed down 1.4% after Bloomberg reported the company has started the sales process for its Boots international drugstore unit. Additional buyout firms, such as Sycamore Partners, are reportedly considering bids.
  • BlackBerry closed up 4.4% after they announced a deal to sell its legacy patents for $600 million. The noncore patent assets include mobile devices, messaging and wireless networking. Catapult, a special purpose vehicle, was formed to acquire the BlackBerry patents.
