Stocks closed up today as investors considered a batch of stronger-than-expected earnings results from major companies.

 

Dow Jones finished +240 at 34,060

S&P 500 finished +28 at 4,211

NASDAQ finished +32 at 14,082

 

The 10 Year Treasury closed up 1 basis point yielding 1.63%

Oil prices closed up $1.05 ending at $64.91 a barrel.

Gold prices closed down $0.30 ending at $1,773 an ounce.

 

In the days’ stock news:

 

  • Ford closed down more than 9% after Ford said it expected to lose half of its second-quarter production due to the global semiconductor shortage. The company did beat expectations on the top and bottom lines for the first quarter.
  • Facebook closed up more than 7% after it reported first-quarter revenue of $26.17 billion, a 48% increase compared with a year prior, thanks to pricier ads. Facebook also reduced its forecast for capital expenditures for the year to between $19 billion and $21 billion.
