The S&P 500 fell today to start the holiday week as enthusiasm over a coronavirus stimulus deal was overwhelmed by worries over a viral new Covid strain in the U.K.

 

Dow Jones finished +37 at 30,216

S&P 500 finished -14 at 3,694

NASDAQ finished -13 at 12,742

 

The 10 Year Treasury closed down 2 basis points yielding 0.93%

Oil prices closed down $1.31 ending at $47.79 a barrel

Gold prices closed down $7.30 ending at $1,881 an ounce

 

In the days’ stock news:

 

  • Nike popped more than 4% after Nike reported strong quarterly earnings that showed digital bets paying off. Nike reported earnings of 78 cents per share on revenue of $11.24 billion.
  • Tesla slid more than 6% during the company’s first day of trading as a member of the S&P 500. Tesla joined the benchmark index prior to the open on Monday, carrying a weighting of 1.69%
