Stocks fell today after a new report on the U.S. labor market sharply disappointed with 861,000 initial jobless claims.

 

Dow Jones finished -120 at 31,493

S&P 500 finished -17 at 3,913

NASDAQ finished -100 at 13,865

 

The 10 Year Treasury closed even yielding 1.29%

Oil prices closed down $1.07 ending at $60.07 a barrel.

Gold prices closed up $0.70 ending at $1,773 an ounce.

 

In the days’ stock news:

 

  • Walmart dropped more than 6% after disappointing quarterly earnings. Walmart posted a loss of $2.09 billion, or 74 cents per share, from earnings of $4.14 billion, or $1.45 share, a year earlier.
  • Cheesecake Factory closed up more than 8% despite the company missing estimates during the fourth quarter. Cheesecake Factory lost 32 cents per share excluding items while reporting $554.6 million in revenue.
