Stocks closed down today after the Labor Department’s weekly jobless claims report showed that initial claims spiked to the highest level since August last week.

 

Dow Jones finished -69 at 30,991

S&P 500 finished -14 at 3,795

NASDAQ finished -16 at 13,112

 

The 10 Year Treasury closed up 4 basis points yielding 1.13%

Oil prices closed up $0.69 ending at $53.60 a barrel.

Gold prices closed down $7.80 ending at $1,847 an ounce.

  • Nordstrom closed up 1.14% despite the holiday season sales falling 22% year over year. Digital sales made up 54% of the retailer’s total sales during the period. Following the release of the sales numbers, Telsey Advisory Group downgraded the stock to a market perform rating.
  • Poshmark — Shares of the online clothing reseller more than doubled after the company’s initial public offering, continuing a recent trend of massive pops for IPOs.
