Stocks closed lower today as the major indexes pulled back after rallying a day earlier.

 

Dow Jones finished -144 at 31,391

S&P 500 finished -32 at 3,870

NASDAQ finished -230 at 13,358

 

The 10 Year Treasury closed down 4 basis points yielding 1.40%

Oil prices closed down $1.05 ending at $59.59 a barrel.

Gold prices closed up $9.60 ending at $1,732 an ounce.

  • Target closed down more than 6% despite reporting better-than-expected quarterly results. Same-store sales rose 20.5%, compared to the estimated 16.8%. Sales got a lift from a strong holiday season and stimulus checks. Target reported earnings per share of $2.67 on revenue of $28.34 billion. Analysts expected earnings per share of $2.54 on revenue of $27.48 billion.
  • Novavax closed down more than 14% after missing on the top and bottom lines of its quarterly results.
