Stocks rose today after new jobless claims came in lower than expected at 406,000 hitting a new pandemic low.

 

Dow Jones finished +139 at 34,464

S&P 500 finished +5 at 4,200

NASDAQ finished -2 at 13,736

 

The 10 Year Treasury closed up 3 basis points yielding 1.60%

Oil prices closed up $0.60 ending at $66.81 a barrel.

Gold prices closed down $3.10 ending at $1,898 an ounce.

 

In the days’ stock news:

 

  • General Motors closed up more than 3% after announcing it will restart production at five assembly plants in North America next week, which had halted production because of a global semiconductor chips shortage.
  • Dollar General closed up 1.8% after the company reported quarterly earnings of $2.82 per share. Analysts were expecting earnings of $2.19 a share. Dollar General also raised its full-year forecast, citing enhanced performance from the most recent round of government stimulus checks.
