U.S. stocks closed up today for the first trading day of May, as shares tied to the economic reopening continued to rise.

 

Dow Jones finished +238 at 34,113

S&P 500 finished +11 at 4,192

NASDAQ finished -68 at 13,895

 

The 10 Year Treasury closed down 3 basis points yielding 1.60%

Oil prices closed up $0.84 ending at $64.42 a barrel.

Gold prices closed up $24.00 ending at $1,791  an ounce.

  • Estee Lauder closed down more than 7% after missing analysts’ revenue estimates for the first quarter. Estee Lauder reported earnings per share of $1.62 on revenue of $3.86 billion
  • Verizon closed up 0.24% after they said it will sell its media group to private equity firm Apollo Global Management for $5 billion. The sale allows Verizon to offload properties from the former internet empires of AOL and Yahoo.
