Wall Street rallied today, adding to recent gains as investors weighed new COVID-19 infections — which are leading to rising deaths and a record number of hospitalizations across the U.S. — against the rapidly unfolding timetable for the deployment of a vaccine.

Dow Jones finished +328 at 29,591

S&P 500 finished +20 at 3,577

NASDAQ finished +26 at 11,880

 

The 10 Year Treasury closed up 2 basis points yielding 0.85%

Oil prices closed up $0.49 ending at $42.91 a barrel

Gold prices closed down $38.90 ending at $1,833 an ounce

 

In the days’ stock news:

 

  • AstraZeneca fell more than 1% after the company said clinical trials showed its coronavirus vaccine has an average effectiveness of 70% in preventing the virus. Its competitors Pfizer and Moderna previously said their Covid-19 vaccine candidates were more than 90% effective.
  • Snap shares gained 2.2% after the social media company launched Spotlight, a feature to its Snapchat platform that functions like TikTok and Instagram Reels.
