Stocks closed higher for a second straight day as investors are becoming more optimistic about congress coming to an agreement on the stimulus deal. In economic news, weekly jobless claims were 837,000 vs. an expected 840,000.

 

Dow Jones finished +35 at 27,816

S&P 500 finished +18 at 3,380

NASDAQ finished +159 at 11,326

 

The 10 Year Treasury closed even yielding 0.68%

Oil prices closed down $1.53 ending at $38.69 a barrel

Gold prices closed up $15.70 ending at $1,911 an ounce

 

In the days’ stock news:

 

  • Starbucks closed up about 1% after Starbucks said it is raising its quarterly dividend to 45 cents per share, up from 41 cents.
  • Bed Bath & Beyond soared more than 25% after the retailer reported second quarter earnings that blew past expectations.
  • Tesla cut the starting price of its China-made Model 3 by about 8%, with the standard model 3 to include a cheaper battery than the one currently used.
