Stocks closed up as the corporate earnings season kicked off with mostly positive results, and traders looked past surging inflation numbers.

Dow Jones finished +344 at 34,564

S&P 500 finished +49 at 4,446

NASDAQ finished +272 at 13,643

The 10 Year Treasury closed down 3 basis points yielding 2.69%

Oil prices closed up $3.68 ending at $104.28 a barrel.

Gold prices closed up $6.00 ending at $1,982 an ounce.

JPMorgan Chase closed down 3.2% as JPMorgan Chase reported a $524 million hit from market dislocations caused by sanctions against Russia due to the war in Ukraine. The bank posted better-than-expected earnings and revenue in the first quarter, but profit fell 42% from the year prior.
Delta Air Lines closed up 6% as Delta forecast a return to profit in the current quarter. Delta posted a narrower-than-expected loss per share in its fiscal first quarter and beat consensus revenue expectations.
