Stocks were mixed Monday as investors closely monitored developments in Washington, D.C., as lawmakers rush to try and avert a government shutdown.

 

Dow Jones finished +71 at 34,869

S&P 500 finished -12 at 4,443

NASDAQ finished -78 at 14,969

 

The 10 Year Treasury closed up 3 basis points yielding 1.49%

Oil prices closed up $1.46 ending at $75.44 a barrel.

Gold prices closed down $1.70 ending at $1,750 an ounce.

 

In the days’ stock news:

 

  • Carnival closed up more 3.9% after the company issued an upbeat business update on Friday. Carnival said its “voyages are already cash flow positive” and it expects the positive trend to continue.
  • Best Buy closed up 5% after Piper Sandler raised its price target on the stock to $150 from $146 per share. The new projection implies 43.2% upside from Best Buy’s closing price Friday.
