Stocks rose today as investors awaited results from the Georgia Senate runoff elections and nervously eyed worsening COVID-19 trends in the U.S. and abroad.

 

Dow Jones finished +168 at 30,391

S&P 500 finished +26 at 3,726

NASDAQ finished +121 at 12,818

 

The 10 Year Treasury closed up 3 basis points yielding 0.95%

Oil prices closed up $2.34 ending at $49.96 a barrel

Gold prices closed up $6.40 ending at $1,953 an ounce

  • Micron shares popped more than 4% after a Citi analyst upgraded the chipmaker to buy from sell, citing a favorable supply-and-demand outlook.
  • Alibaba jumped more than 5% after it was reported that billionaire founder Jack Ma is not missing and he’s just laying low for the time being. There had been speculations about Ma’s disappearance after his Ant Group saw its record-setting IPO suspended by stock exchanges in Shanghai and Hong Kong. Ma was last seen at a public event in October.
